Probably the most anticipated announcement in the mobile phone world is Apple’s Annual iPhone Launch Event. This is where the “big dogs” at Apple stand in front of the world and put to rest all the leaks and rumours that have been released in the build up to this big event.
Apple’s new iPhone 2018 launch event will take place on Wednesday 12th of September, and there are a lot of questions that need answering!
There have been a lot of rumours about the new iPhone so far. According to Techradar, there is going to be a 6.1-inch iPhone, potentially the iPhone 9, which could be the most interesting “apple” to fall from the tree. The screen will have an iPhone X-like all-screen, notched design. It’s set to be a more affordable big-screen iPhone, offering a notable jump in display size without too much of a downside.
The iPhone 9 pricing may be closer to the 4.7-inch iPhone 8 at £699, which would be a significant deal for an iPhone with such a large screen as year-on-year Apple increase their prices with each new phone; however there are rumours that it will cost a lot less than this and be as low as £450-£530 instead. If this is true, it may definitely tip the market in favour of Apple once again!
The rest of the rumoured specs shouldn’t be a surprise: Apple’s A12 chipset should give the phone faster performance, single-lens 12MP camera, stainless steel frames (instead of aluminium), and slightly more RAM and storage options. It will also run iOS 12 out of the box.
iPhone XS and XS Plus:
There haven’t been as many rumours or leaks about these, as there have been about the “iPhone 9”, but here is what there is so far.
The iPhone XS and iPhone XS Plus (or iPhone 11 and 11 Plus), both with OLED screens, are rumoured to come in black and white colours again, and to be joined by newcomer gold (a colour Apple is said to have cancelled at one point before launching the iPhone X last year).
It seems the XS will sport the same 5.8” display from it’s predecessor, the popular iPhone X. Whereas the iPhone XS Plus may have a whopping 6.5” screen, both still keeping the all-screen, notched design.
Both of these models will have similar specs, including dual rear cameras, stainless steel frames, glass backs, and internals – including the A12 chipset, 4GB of RAM, and 64/256/512GB of storage.
Apple Watch Series 4:
The guys at GSM Arena have already been given an official looking render of the new Apple Watch. At first sight, it’s got a familiar look, and it’s even expected to have the exact same length and width as its predecessor. The difference looks like it will be in the screen; specifically the fact that the Series 4 may have a bigger display in the same chassis, by trimming the bezels.
Not much has been released about the newest version of the world’s most popular Smart Watch, so we will have to wait until the 12th of September to get the full rundown.
Other Announcements to be made:
This is an iPhone launch event, but Apple is almost certainly going to launch other products, including two long-overdue accessories.
The AirPower is Apple’s wireless charging mat announced on September 12th, last year. It has faced delays, but may finally be ready now.
They also promised new AirPods (or at least a wireless case) last year, too. We’ve yet to see these launch, although they may be holding back to release the new AirPods 2, rumoured to launch next year with features like noise cancelling and waterproofing.
There are always a lot of leaks around the technology giant’s launch events, but how many of these will we actually get? Will we get more? Or will it all be an anti-climax? At least we don’t have long to find out.
